WIPRO PATTERN & INTERVIEW - 3 NOV 2011 - KOLKATA
I am presenting here my experience I received in campus drive conducted
by Wipro Infotech at TICT (Kolkata) on 3 & 4 November 2011.
On 3rd and 4th of November 2011 Wipro InfoTech conducted their campusing programme.
It was conducted at Techno India, Saltlake.
Nature of Campusing :
Actually it was a pool campusing. So many students of various institutions like all colleges under Techno India group, B.P. Poddar, Academy of Technology, Future Institute of Engineering and Management, Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management reached there.
Eligibility Criteria :
Besides of B.Tech, BCA, MCA and Diploma holders also could apply for this. The eligible candidates should have 60% throughout, not more than one year gap, excellent communication skills both oral & written and have no problem in relocation.
At our time per college 20 pupils were allowed and I was shortlisted for the campusing under the left over 3 members of my department.
Selection Procedure :
The whole campusing programme was consists of five parts.
(i) Aptitude test.
(ii) Group Discussion.
(iii) PPT (Pre-Placement Talk).
(iv) Technical Interview.
(v) HR Interview.
I am a student of Electrical Engineering department. I wrote “Power System” as my favorite subject in the CV. Here I am sharing some of my experiences.
(i) Aptitude Test
The Aptitude test was consists of three sections namely Verbal, Quantitative and Technical. Total there were 50 questions and the time was 1 hour. 20 questions were of verbal type. Topics were like active and passive voice, reported speech, phrases, antonym, synonym, jumbled words, analogies etc. 20 questions were from Quantitative section and topics were Blood relations, conclusions from the Paragraph, time and work, probability, average, areas, ratio and proportion related problems. 10 questions were from technical portion. Though it was mainly full of UNIX based questions, there were C, DS, JAVA, C++, OS and networks based questions. There was the provision of sectional cutoff. Though we didn’t know about the actual cutoff ratios, we came to know about nearly as 7-7-4/5. I attempted close to 95% because there were no negative marks. It gives you a lot of confidence surely.
TIP: - Don’t get nervous after seeing the sizes of the questions. Because in many cases it was found that the maximum portion is irrelevant from the actual one. In some cases it is a good practice to start the question from the options side (Back calculation method).
Actually this test was conducted only to filter out as much student as possible because a huge crowd was waiting before this event. Approximately there were 70 odd students for the next round.
Now on the same day our Group Discussion section was conducted. In each group there were generally 11 people. They took us to a conference room. I was in the middle of the group heading towards the recruiter. Our topic was “Is Chinese Economy a Threat for the Indian Economy?”. First of all we didn’t concentrate on the point so the person told us to point it out first. Luckily our entire group made it one sided discussion by supporting Indian economy; but to get a chance everyone misjudged the timing and went for speaking. So it was just to be turned in a fish market. I tried my best there to stop this mess but at the same time I had to tell something. So it could be looked like I was stopping them forcefully to deliver my speech. At last the result was announced at the same hall. They took 6 of us. Luckily I was there. I heard that they even took 10 people out of 11 from another group. So you can see it was a tough fight in our group.
TIP: - Try as much as possible to tell. Speak some points or even if you don’t know about the topic then try to support others’ point and speak confidently. Last but not the least FIND AS MUCH AS CHANCE POSSIBLE and give chance to others.
It was the end of the First day.
On the next day the selected candidates from the previous round were taken to a room where the PPT was presented. I think it is really very cool to all of you.
Next the technical interview was there. We were told to wait for the same. After I was called I went there with a “half confident-half nervous” mind. As I am from EE department so the interviewer asked me from my course of study. He was a very nice person and friendly, too. Questions were of like, favorite subject, subject before this, what is transformer, how the power is distributed, what are the ways of power of transmission. He asked me questions from Hash Functions though I was unable to answer it properly. Thanks to him that next he gave me the HR form and I was really very glad on that moment.
TIP: - Be as much as confident you can HOLD. Be straight forward. Make good eye contact. Lastly if you find that he is stretching his hands for the HR form then you can think that you are selected for the next round.
We noticed that so many students were leaving the room. They were out of that Technical round so no question of further interview. We were worried over this matter.
(v) HR Interview
Next all the selected candidates were told to fill the HR form and we were all together once more. At last it was the final round. Frankly speaking he was really a very nice person. He interacted with me in such a fashion that I was feeling that I am talking with my elder brother. The questions were like tell me about yourself which hasn’t been mentioned in the CV, my favorite game (I told him Cricket, so he asked me that if I had seen Sourav Ganguly; I answered affirmatively), number of friends in Facebook, out of Facebook, what I do when I meet with my friends, what I know about their training programme. I answered all those properly. Last I asked if I am selected or not and I bet it was the happiest moment in my life (You can understand).
TIP: - Nothing special. You will be known all the answers. Be confident.
IT WAS THE FIFTH TIME I ATTENDED FOR CAMPUS DRIVE. BEFORE I WAS REJECTED FROM TCS, ACCENTURE, BOC, HNG CAMPUS DRIVE. SO I KNOW WHAT THE GRIEFS FOR NOT BEING SELECTED ARE. BUT I HAD BELIEF IN GOD. AND AT LAST HE GAVE ME THE RESULT. THANKS TO ALL THE WIPRO TEAM, MY FRIENDS, MY PARENTS AND MY T.P.O SIR AND OTHER FACULY MEMBERS OF MY COLLEGE FOR SUPPORTING ME THROUGHOUT THE SESSION. AND TELLING YOU ABOUT MY LUCK, I WAS THE ONLY B.TECH. CANDIDATE FROM MY COLLEGE SELECTED FOR WIPRO INFOTECH. HOPE IT WILL HELP YOU SOMEHOW.
